the 1898 Scott #284 stamp features a portrait of Henry Clay, a famous American statesman and orator. The stamp design is very similar to the Benjamin Franklin stamp, with Clay's portrait facing to the right and the words "UNITED STATES POSTAGE" at the top and "TWO CENTS" at the bottom. The olive green color of the stamp is achieved through a combination of blue and yellow inks, giving it a unique and distinct appearance. Like the Franklin stamp, the Scott #284 Clay stamp was used primarily for domestic first-class mail and is a popular collector's item today.
